A visit to the Maeklong Railway Market can be a lot of fun. Not only is there a real passenger train passing through a local street market, there is a lot of Thai food to try. And fortunately, good quality vegan and vegetarian food is available.
Yellow One Café
There’s this little café called Yellow One situated right next to the rail track. They have a nice selection of vegetarian and vegan food. Actually, my guess is all their vegetarian food is also vegan, unless you decide to have a fried egg on top of your rice order.
The vegetarian menu includes stir-fried veggies, mushrooms, and tofu, served as a combo with steamed rice. The meal you see in the picture above cost me just 80 Baht. It was fresh and tasted good.
There are drinks and desserts on the menu as well.
Location and Timings
Yellow One Cafe is open daily from 7.30 AM to 5 PM.
About its location, the tour buses which take tourists to Maeklong, usually recommend a Thai restaurant called HIIG Cafe. They may call it “High-G”. This cafe, High-G, is even used as an assembly point for tourists. Well, if you are at High-G, look across the track and you will see Yellow One. If you are asking for directions, ask someone about High-G. That way, it will be easier to find Yellow One.
Personally for me, it was heartening to see a restaurant offering vegetarian food at Maeklong Railway Market. And I really liked their food. I am sure you will like it too.
