If you are visiting Singapore, and need to withdraw cash from an ATM there, you may be wondering which bank’s ATM to use, and how much the ATMs in Singapore charge for cash withdrawal transactions, In this article, I will share the name of the bank in Singapore whose ATMs let you withdraw cash without charging any ATM fee, even if you are using an ATM card issued in another country.
What Is The Usual Fee
When it comes to the cash withdrawal fee, Singapore banks all follow different policies. Depending on which bank’s ATM you are using, the ATM withdrawal fee can vary from zero to eight Singapore dollars.
And on top of charging a fee, those banks even try to trick you into opting for dynamic currency conversion (DCC), which makes your cash withdrawal even more expensive.
No More Tricks, The Best ATM In Singapore
In March 2024, I discovered a bank in Singapore, whose ATMs let me withdraw cash without charging any transaction fee. My own India-based card issuing bank did charge me, but the Singapore bank did not. The ATM transaction fee for that bank was zero.
That bank was UOB, or United Overseas Bank. Before you get any doubts, I will state again that I used a Visa debit card, issued by a bank in India, which does not have any ATM arrangement with UOB in Singapore.
I withdrew SGD 1000 in a single transaction, and perhaps could have withdrawn more (not sure of that), but there was no fee. The UOB ATM did offer me DCC, but there was no compulsion. I did not opt for DCC, and the ATM went ahead and processed my transaction in Singapore dollars only.
Which Cards Are Accepted
UOB ATMs in Singapore accept cards issued by Visa, Visa Plus, MasterCard, Cirrus, UnionPay, JCB, and NETS. I am not sure if all these cards will work at zero fee, but my Visa card certainly did.
You may try with your card, and if there is a fee involved, the ATM screen will show it before processing your transaction. Just be careful to opt out of DCC.
Where To Find UOB ATMs
UOB ATMs are present in many locations in Singapore. The one I used was right outside an MRT station. When you see an ATM cluster somewhere in Singapore, it is likely that a UOB ATM will be there. This official webpage of UOB may also help in locating their ATMs: https://www.uob.com.sg/online-branch/locate-us.page
Hopefully, if UOB’s free ATM withdrawal policy continues, you may be able to save some money during your next trip to Singapore.
