Effective July 15, 2024, Thailand increased the maximum period of stay under the visa exemption program to 60 days during each visit. This stay can even be extended by another 30 days with approval from a local immigration office. However, the extended stay has come with a few conditions, and one of those conditions is related to proof of funds.
When the maximum stay allowed under visa exemption was 30 days, the proof of funds requirement, the money to be shown at immigration, was 10,000 Baht per person and 20,000 Baht per family. It has changed now, and the new requirement is as under:
Proof of Funds Requirement for 60-Day Visa Free Stay In Thailand
If you are entering Thailand using the 60-Days Visa Exemption, the immigration officer may ask you to show funds equal to 20,000 Baht per person and 40,000 Baht per family.
This proof of funds is expected to be in currency, in Thai Baht or another popular currency such as USD.
Credit/Debit cards or bank statements, etc., are usually not accepted as proof, and the decision to accept such declarations rests with the immigration officer. There are no clear rules or guidelines.
The real information coming out of Thailand, via my interactions with those who have recently traveled to Thailand, and also from YouTube comments, is that visitors on a random basis are being asked to show funds as per the new requirements. You may want to be careful.
